Halloween Card

This card is a design that I intend to send out as my Halloween greeting this year. I wanted to avoid orange and black as a dominant color combination, so I picked blues instead. I also wanted to use as saturated of colors as I could to emphasize the expression on the dog's partially white face. I am still working on it, however... Comments are appreciated.

Have a great Halloween!

Sketch:shed

I've been staying busy, hence the lack of posts. I have been doing more and more outdoor work, which is so refreshing this time of year. Above is a 15 minute sketch I did in plain old graphite. I want to turn this value study into a full blown painting, but I'll have to put that on hold for the minute. :)

Thank you

I've heard that some of my shirts from RIPT Apparel have shipped and arrived!!!!

The above is a picture of what the final product looked like. Pretty green peas on a soft baby blue background.... What more could you ask for?! Thank you to everyone that ordered one! I hope everyone enjoys their shirts! :)

Painting

Painting is something that I love to do but barely ever have the time for... There's all that set up and clean up involved. But when I do paint, I like to keep the colors at a minimum, like in this silver and black piece.

I painted the black bar at the bottom to keep it more graphic and almost like cut paper- which is just something I like to do. I chose the colors to match the appliances in my kitchen since I needed something to hang on the wall by the fridge. :)

It was done with acrylics.

Sweet things

Happy Friday!

Today I thought that I might feature an illustration that I recently added to my www.maryweaverart.com website. This piece is done with watercolor, colored pencil and chalk pastels. The centers of the flowers are as follows: a peppermint, a cookie, and a gumdrop candy. They are happily sprouting from a watermelon slice.

I'll be working on getting some new art up as soon as I can!
Have a great Friday!

Updated Website

It's been a while since my last post because I have happily been keeping busy. :) I had been trying to get my website up to date for quite a while now and finally accomplished that task. Check it out here: www.maryweaverart.com .

I'll be posting some artwork soon. Have a great weekend!

Old photoshop sketch

While looking through some old files of mine I came across this 5 minute warm-up sketch that I did of my little muse late last year in Photoshop. I like to attempt to preserve a sketchy quality when I do practice pieces digitally and I really like the challenge of seeing what I can illustrate in a fixed amount of time.

I'll post some more work as soon as I can.

Part 2- Birds

I love to fill pages of my sketchbook with little, fast, graphite sketches as much as often as I can. This is the final piece of the previous bird sketch that I posted.

I will be posting some more work in the near future.

Bird landing on branch

This is a quick sketch that I illustrated of a bird about to land on a branch. I intentionally drew this sketchy and fast to bring out the movement in the piece. I'd love to do a finished piece from this sketch in the future.

Another pup

I sketched this puppy one afternoon last year. He was a large mixed breed, playful little guy with an adorable face and sweet demeanor. I illustrated this in graphite.

Quick bird sketch

This is a quick graphite sketch that I drew of a pretty little bird. I really enjoy drawing birds and make it a habit to sketch them quite often since their feathers make for very interesting textures and shadows.

Cherry pattern

This is another close up of pattern that I illustrated digitally. I really enjoy the way the cherries came out stylistically. I was aiming for graphic, bright and clean. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Another Boston Terrier

While looking through my sketch book, I came across another sketch of my little 'muse'. Sketching him is always something of an enjoyable challenge since he is only in the same spot for what seems like a split second. I have lots of little quick drawings of him that I've done over the years but I happen to love this one because I tried to capture his little 'smile' by illustrating him in a more animated manner.

(I'll upload different subject matter in my next post.)

Handsom pup: Sketch 1

I love taking my sketchbook with me while I'm on the road. While traveling last year, I sketched my handsome little 'muse' with graphite in my sketch book. The second image is a close up. (My scanner is having issues, so forgive the fuzzy and blurred quality of the on screen images.)

Dog Portrait 2

This is the second dog portrait that I mentioned in an earlier post. It was also done in Adobe Illustrator. I kept it as close in design to the other portrait as I could since they were meant to go together. I wanted some of the dogs personality to show through, and I think that it was achieved. I was very happy with this one.

I will be posting some of my graphite sketches in the next post, so keep checking back! :)

Falling frog

I illustrated this a while back in chalk pastels on a dark textured paper. I did multiple illustrations of the same frog in different situations and scenes. This particular illustration is my favorite of the series because the colors came out so saturated. (The colors are much smoother and brighter on the original.)

May 15, 2009

Red flowers

I did these two illustrations for a client. They were designed to be hung side by side to give the appearance of one continuous image. They are rather large in person, and the colors are slightly different than they appear here on the screen. I designed the flowers to steer away from photographic realism into more simplistic forms and I felt that illustrating them in a vector program helped. I was happy with the graphic quality the flowers and the leaves had when I finished.

Pink and Peach.

This was a quick vector design that I illustrated for fun. I did a few color comps before deciding on pink and peach as my color combination. I want to work on this further and add some extra design elements. It is still a work in progress.
Comments are appreciated.

Lemons!

I really have a lot of fun making illustrated patterns and have done quite a few in the past year. This is a close up of one of my simpler pattern pieces that I illustrated in Adobe Illustrator. I kept the lemons nice and saturated and added a layered backdrop to help the lemons pop into the foreground. Enjoy!

May 10, 2009

Dog Portrait 1

I illustrated this in Adobe Illustrator. It is piece one in a set of two illustrations. I will try to post the companion illustration later as well.

I limited the background so that the dog held most of the visual interest. In the end, I like how this turned out.

Kiwis!

Kiwis are such cute little animals! I did this piece to go along with the image of the peas in the pod from my last post. I want to do more of these eventually. Again, this was done with Adobe Illustrator. Enjoy!

May 7, 2009

This is an illustration of four bright green peas in a pod. I did this for fun and as a quick, little color study. It was done in Adobe Illustrator.
